MANILA, Philippines --- The Philippine passport placed 78th out of 109 in the 2023 Henley Passport Index (HPI), with Japan leading the list. In January last year, it was 77th out of 111, but it ended up at 80th by the end of 2022. According to Henley & Partners --- the firm that oversees the global index of passport power --- HPI compares the visa-free access of 199 passports of different countries to 227 travel destinations. It gives a score based on the number of destinations a holder of the passport can access visa-free. A score of one is given for every destination a country's passport can go to without visa.
