May 3 declared regular holiday for Eid’l Fitr

MANILA, Philippines --- The regular holiday declared by the government for Eid'l Fit --- the culmination of the fasting of Ramadan --- remains on Tuesday, May 3, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea announced in a text message to reporters on Sunday. The Muslim celebration, however, begins on Monday, as earlier announced by the Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Darul-Ifta earlier. This is because the groups assigned for moon sighting finally saw the crescent moon on Sunday, which marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal. The celebration ends on the evening of Tuesday. RELATED STORY Bangsamoro grand mufti declares: Eid'l Fitr falls on May 2...
