MANILA, Philippines --- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will conduct passenger background checks at ports to block Badjaos traveling to Metro Manila to beg during the holidays, Commodore Armand Balilio, PCG spokesperson, said on Wednesday. Authorities suspect the Badjaos --- sea gypsies scattered throughout Tawi Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, and some coastal areas of Zamboanga City --- are being trafficked by syndicates taking advantage of their poverty.
