MANILA, Philippines --- Several local governments ordered on Monday the suspension of classes in public and private schools on Tuesday, May 30, due to Typhoon Betty (international name: Mawar). According to the state weather bureau, Betty was last spotted 445 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan, coasting above the Philippine Sea carrying maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 190 kph. It has yet to directly hit the country's landmass, but the typhoon's radius has already hit parts of extreme Northern Luzon.
